For cables installed in highly populated and enclosed environments, safety must be enhanced to reduce the harmful risks in the event of a fire. Dow’s fire-performance insulation and jacketing compounds offer cable producers a variety of solutions, from fire-resistant compounds for control cables to different types of flame-retardant compounds that delay cable burning and limit or eliminate the release of smoke and toxic gases. Our portfolio of flame-retardant products also includes a wide variety of fully formulated compounds and resins that allow users to formulate their own compounds.

Dow’s general purpose jacketing compounds can be used in a wide variety of power and telecommunication applications, spanning from higher-density compounds that maximize the protection of buried cables to lower-density compounds used to protect cables installed in pipes, ducts or overhead applications. These compounds offer the Dow AXELERON™ Telecom Cable Compound brand value in reliable cable protection, efficient cable production and ease of installation.

  • AXELERON™ Telecom Cable Compounds offers enhanced cable jacket flexibility, jacket surface smoothness and low coefficient of friction. They also lower attenuation which helps enable more efficient signal transmission.
  • UNIGARD™ RE and HP flame-retardant compounds are used in jackets for industrial and building wires and tray cables to guard against the threat of electrical fires.

Our ENDURANCE™ HFDD-4201 Compound for Cable Systems was honored as a 2023 R&D 100 Awards winner for its innovative, fully formulated polymer compounds.

This high-voltage insulation solution enhances the cable manufacturing process by utilizing a patented cross-linked polyethylene formulation. This enables significant decarbonization and reductions in degassing time across the wire and cable industry.​
