Our industrial coatings deliver protection and performance that lasts
The protection and maintenance of industrial and commercial structures often relies on high-performance paints and coatings, and raw materials from Dow can help you formulate those coatings. Concrete and metal surfaces need protection in a variety of service environments ranging from mild to aggressive. For light to medium duty maintenance and protective coatings, we offer waterborne acrylic resins that enable formulations with lower volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. For more aggressive environments, we offer a variety of raw materials such as acrylic polyols and specialty polyether polyols for polyurethane systems, and silicone resins for high temperature applications. With waterborne, solventborne and high solids resins and additives from Dow, you can formulate high-performance coatings to combat the damaging effects of the environment on our infrastructure.
Acrylic resins
Waterborne and solventborne acrylic binders from Dow facilitate the formulation of 1K and 2K industrial coatings for use in industrial maintenance finishes for steel and concrete, commercial architectural finishes for metal and concrete, institutional coatings, DIY metal coatings, and protective coatings for transportation applications such as railcars and shipping containers. With our wide range of MAINCOTE™ waterborne products, high performance waterborne direct-to-metal primers and finish coats are now possible with VOC levels down to 50 g/L and below. Our AVANSE™ Resin technology is pushing the limits on corrosion resistance beyond what traditional latex coatings could provide, and our MAINCOTE™ AEH Acrylic-Epoxy Hybrid technology is rethinking how epoxy-based systems perform in terms of drying speed, pot life and exterior durability. High-solids solventborne PARALOID™ Acrylic Polyols from Dow facilitate formulation of highly durable 2K polyurethane coatings for use in more aggressive environments, and our line of solution and solid grade thermoplastic PARALOID™ Acrylic Resins have been assisting in the protection of concrete and steel for over 60 years.
Key benefits include:
- Low VOC capability
- Excellent corrosion resistance
- Excellent gloss and durability
- Fast dry and fast return to service
Polyether polyols
Robust and versatile, our polyols can be used in 1K and 2K coating systems and offer advanced hydrophobic properties, improved processing, ease of formulation and excellent mechanical properties in a wide range of applications. And with our backward integration into the basic feedstocks for producing polyurethane chemicals, we are able to provide the highest levels of product purity as well as tailor reactivities and mechanical performance to your most demanding requirements.
Key benefits of Dow polyether polyols for protective coatings include:
- Fast cure
- Excellent flexibility
- Enhanced elongation
- Increased tensile strength and hardness
- High resilience
- Outstanding moisture and chemical resistance in extreme environments
- Reduced gel time
- Superior bond strength
Silicone resins and resin intermediates
The use of silicon-based technologies in the coatings market has evolved over the decades, allowing formulators to create differentiated, high performance protective and decorative coatings.
Silicone resins and resin intermediates have found utility in heat resistant paint and industrial marine and protective coatings, coil coatings and most recently, hybrid resin systems creating interpenetrating silicone-organic resins with attributes of both chemistries for premium, topcoat finishes.
Paint and coatings formulations incorporating Dow silicone resins and resin intermediates exhibit improved resistance to:
- Temperature
- Moisture
- Corrosion
- Electrical discharge
- Weathering
With excellent compatibility with many organic resins, silicone resins can provide a wide range of film and performance properties for many high-value applications.
