Our customer Givaudan is a creator of food experiences, inspired fragrances and wellbeing solutions. As downstream consumer demand for sustainable goods continues to grow, Givaudan has committed itself to ambitious sustainability goals, including reducing the carbon footprint of its products.

Dow and Givaudan found a winning collaboration to link upstream decarbonization actions and finished products.

Dow launched Propylene Glycol-DEC featuring Decarbia™ reduced carbon options. Customers such as Givaudan who have started producing flavor and fragrance products with Propylene Glycol-DEC USP/EP and Dipropylene Glycol-DEC LO+ featuring Decarbia™ can benefit from a reduction in their Scope 3 emissions.

The collaboration between Dow and Givaudan demonstrates how a shared vision can guide value chain stakeholders to match the right technologies and opportunities to customer and consumer demand for sustainable innovation.

Dow is collaborating to advance opportunities to decarbonize value chains and ensure that decarbonization is tracked and verifiable. The Carbon Footprint Ledger is an instrument that allows Dow to offer low-carbon products to customers in the form of PCF certificates.  Low-carbon product footprints are calculated using the CFL methodology, which is based on the existing market precedents of mass balance in GHG accounting*. 

With this success, and a growing demand for lower-GHG-emissions solutions globally, Givaudan sought to expand their use of DOW™ Propylene Glycol USP DEC and DOW™ Dipropylene Glycol LO+ DEC to all regions globally. This enabled Givaudan to accelerate their decarbonization efforts while delivering low-GHG-emissions products to flavor and fragrance end markets around the world.

*The methodology is in accordance with Product Carbon Footprint standards, such as ISO14067, the GHG Protocol Product Standard, and industry guidelines.

What are the uses of Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) Regular Grade?

Application versatility

Its low evaporation rate, excellent solvency for certain oils, and low toxicity make it ideal for use in brake fluid formulations, cutting oils, textile lubricants, printing inks, coatings, industrial soaps, Paints/Coatings, and Agriculture Adjuvants.

Excellent initiator

Dipropylene Glycol is an excellent initiator for urethane polyol synthesis and is used in rigid polyurethane foams.

Plasticizers

Used in the production of dipropylene glycol dibenzoate for plasticizers.

Solvent

Can be used as a solvent for agricultural and insecticidal formulations.

Resin formulations

Used to create dipropylene glycol diacrylate for radiation-cured resin formulations.
