Tire Solutions

Technology that keeps your wheels turning

Tire technology for a safer, more reliable ride

Advanced protection. Lighter weight. Designed for modern mobility.

Innovation and sustainability from a trusted brand with 80 years of demonstrated performance.

SILASTIC™ Self-Sealing Silicone is a soft, flexible, two-part sealant that creates a thin protective layer inside the tire. When a puncture occurs, the sealant helps seal the puncture path around the object and helps maintain tire pressure once it’s removed, delivery safety, convenience, and sustainability.

From puncture to protection, silicones seal the deal

A tire puncture is both inconvenient and unsafe. But what if a flat tire was a thing of the past? With Dow’s SILASTIC™ SST-8860 Self-Sealing Silicone, the enhanced performance, safety and durability of tires is not only possible but achievable. Easier to process and simpler to use, SST-8860 has demonstrated reliable self-sealing performance across a wide range of tire applications and operating conditions, so manufacturers, drivers and passengers alike can rest easy knowing the road is a much safer place to be.

SILASTIC™ SST-8860

A two-part, ambient curing elastomer designed for self-sealing tire technology. It forms a durable, self-sealing layer on the inner tire surface, providing reliable puncture sealing and extended drive capability without air pressure loss.

Solutions by application

Modern Suv four wheel drive car stay on roadside of winter road. Family trip to ski resort concept. Winter or spring holidays adventure. car on winter snowy road in mountains in sunny day.

Passenger cars, SUVs & Light trucks

For everyday light-duty driving, SILASTIC™ self-sealing silicone supports a thin, lightweight tire design that helps preserve handling and ride comfort while reducing reliance on a spare tire.

Motorcycle

Two-wheelers, Scooters & E-bikes

Across daily commutes, city streets and varied road conditions, SILASTIC™ self-sealing silicone helps riders stay mobile after punctures.

Army officials say industry is ready now to begin developing the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle for the Army. While multiple prototype JLTV vehicles exist, the Army has yet to choose one as the service's newest vehicle.

Military Vehicles & Off-road

For vehicles exposed to demanding conditions, SILASTIC™ self-sealing silicone maintains stable viscoelastic properties across a broad temperature range, supporting consistent sealing performance.

Key Benefits of SILASTIC™ Self-sealing Silicone

Enhanced Durability

Consistent tire performance across a broad temperature range of -40 °C to 100°C, with continued/extended mobility after puncture and excellent sealing durability.

Lower Processing Costs

Avoid laser precleaning of tire, saving 90 seconds per tire and labour savings. Room temperature cure, low energy process, with no pre-compounding required.

Enhanced Productivity

5x faster than butyl coating application using standard equipment. Room temperature, low odor application with soft & flexibility, high tack to many substrates, and no-sag after application.

Supports Recyclability of Tires

Ability to separate material from tires at end of life enables efficient recycling of both tires and silicon in separate waste and streams.

Reduced Material Use

Lightweight sealant enables 85% reduction per tire vs. standard run flat insert, improving lightweighting and fuel efficiency by eliminating spare tire. Repairability supports product performance over time.

Safety and Peace of mind

Helps maintain gas tightness with a thin sealant layer, even under busy road or harsh weather conditions.

Dow materials science supporting lightweighting, repairability, recyclability and end-of-life solutions

Designed for performance today, and circularity tomorrow.

Through advanced materials science, Dow is helping enable tire solutions that can reduce vehicle weight, support greater range and fuel efficiency, and create more design flexibility. At the end of life, the technology is designed to support separation from the tire, helping enable more efficient recycling of both tires and silicone into separate waste streams.
