FAQ: Silicone Building Sealant
What are the chemical and salt water resistant properties of a silicone building sealant?
Silicone building sealants are generally chemically resistant and resistant to intermittent saltwater spray. Intermittent exposure to various cleaners should not be a detriment to a silicone sealant, under normal conditions. Due to the vast number of chemicals and concentrations Dow cannot test all possible chemical exposures. Actual conditions also vary as the time of exposure, temperature, and immersion will more than likely change testing results. Therefore, Dow cannot state unequivocally that our materials are chemically resistant.
