Circular economy success story: Yooji - the responsible baby food brand in France

In line with their mission to offer organic and responsibly sourced food, French brand Yooji has engaged with ePac Flexibles, Leygatech and Pack Studios to improve their packaging footprint and design for recyclability with the help of a mono-polyethylene structure, made with machine direction orientation (MDO). The flexible plastic pouches for baby purée keep the food fresh, can be produced efficiently and are a commercial reality in France.

Can a pouch be a pouch again?

This case highlights a PE-based barrier MDO-PE food pouch designed for recyclability, which is transformed into a high-quality dishwasher detergent pouch with 30% recycled content. Achieving a circular economy requires collaboration and special deinking technology to produce high-quality recyclates for pouch-to-pouch recycling. The use of MDO-PE helps enable a return to a PE-based concept. At the Film Innovation Center in Pack Studios Tarragona, digital printing and industrial-scale production machinery facilitate the development and testing of sustainable packaging options.

Making an impact with a sustainability advantage

Since 2018, Pack Studios Mumbai has continuously accelerated regional application development projects. To date, our facilities have hosted over 50 customers for specific project discussions and trials.

These collaborations have led to multiple success cases across India within the last few years. In 2020, waste management company Lucro collaborated with Pack Studios Mumbai to develop and launch polyethylene (PE) film options using PCR plastics. The collaboration will help divert 6,000 tons of waste from the environment, creating new business opportunities with best practices that result in cleaner communities.
