Dow Fiber Solutions Hosts Exclusive Workwear Market Trend Seminar and Unveils New DOW XLA™ RE:POWER™ Brand to the Industry
Comfort, Fit and Durability Will Drive Workwear Market Resurgence & Inspires Brand Launch
Horgen, Switzerland - November 4th, 2009
As the worldwide economy strengthens, growth in the global workwear market will be driven by garments that are more comfortable, fit better, and last longer, according to a recent study conducted by global consulting firm Frost and Sullivan.
“Our research clearly indicates the market demand for garments that provide comfort, fit, and ease of movement in active job functions. In addition, garment durability is even more important today given the lessons learned during the economic downturn,” said Dr. Brian Balmer of Frost and Sullivan. “As we move into 2010 and beyond, this creates exceptional opportunities for fabric producers and garment manufacturers who can meet these marketplace needs.”
The firm’s research was presented to leaders of the workwear industry on November 3 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Dow Fiber Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, which manufactures and markets DOW XLA™ stretch fiber adding value to general workwear, corporate wear, and uniforms, hosted the presentation.
In response to industry demands for fit, comfort, and durability in garments, Dow Fiber Solutions will introduce Re:Power™, which will be made available in 2010 to workwear mills whose fabrics with DOW XLA™ premium stretch fiber meet the highest performance standards for industrial laundering. The Re:Power™ brand will give mills, garment manufacturers, and consumers confidence in the performance of their workwear, career wear, and uniform fabrics that contain XLA™. The key benefits of DOW XLA™ fiber that energize workwear with lasting comfort and fit are captured in the new Re:Power™ trademark.
“Re:Power™ will have a very positive impact on the workwear industry at a time when the global economy is rebounding and inventories are being rebuilt to meet increased demand,” said Cathy Knowles, global marketing manager for Dow Fiber Solutions. “DOW XLA™ Re:Power™ combines soft stretch and inherent chemical and heat resistance for more comfortable and durable workwear with the confidence that workwear fabrics with Re:Power™ meet the highest performance standards.”
The soft stretch of DOW XLA™ fiber enables fabrics to match the body’s natural movement in a range of workplace activities, according to Knowles. Fabrics made with DOW XLA™ can maintain dimensional stability and elasticity with acceptable shrinkage after more than 50 cycles of industrial laundering at 95 degrees Celsius and tunnel drying.
Dow Fibers Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is dedicated to pioneering innovations for the global textile industry by matching proactive research and development expertise with the creative vision of retailers, designers, and manufacturers – to meet consumer needs. DOW XLA™ is one of many innovative products that underscore Dow’s strategy to strengthen its performance business portfolio by prioritizing marketing and application development activities that support high-value, end-use applications. Dow Fiber Solutions Introduces DOW XLA™ RE:FLEX4™ Premuim Stretch Denim With 4-Way Flexibility
Paris, France – May 15, 2009
At the forefront of cutting edge fashion and technology, Dow Fiber Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is dedicated to pioneering innovations for the textile industry. Debuting at Denim by Premier Vision in Paris on June 3 & 4, Dow Fiber Solutions will reveal Re:Flex4™, a revolutionary breakthrough in multi-dimensional stretch denim using DOW XLA™ premium stretch fiber. Re:Flex4™ answers designer’s and consumer’s denim desires by offering durable, premium stretch denim that allows incredible four-way flexibility for ultimate comfort. DOW XLA™, known for redesigning the rules, fulfills the industry’s needs with Re:Flex4™ liberating designers to create new products with unmatched fit and comfort without compromising the authentic look and feel of cotton. As the world’s first and only olefin-based stretch fiber, DOW XLA™ premium stretch fiber is engineered to defy limitations posed with rigid denim or other stretch denim fabrics.
DOW XLA™ Re:Flex4™ is specially designed, patent-pending technology delivering four-way stretch that adapts to the body's silhouette with enhanced shaping memory for the ultimate in soft comfortable denim with a custom-like fit. The body moves in different ways and now denim will, too. Four-way stretch denim with DOW XLA™ Re:Flex4™ premium stretch fiber in both the warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) reduces fabric compression in key areas and matches the body’s natural movement for better fitting and more comfortable garments.
Denim by PV will be the official European launch for DOW XLA™ Re:Flex4™, revolutionizing the senses with a high impact presentation, reshaping the way we think about fashion. DOW XLA™ Re:Flex4™ will be displayed in a visually stimulating installation that invites the viewer to experience the benefits of DOW XLA™ fiber, bringing to life the design superiority, performance, fit and durability of this innovative fabric.
DOW XLA™ fiber is inherently resistant to high-heat and harsh chemicals allowing designers to create innovative looks through bleaching, stonewashing, distressing, and imprinting all without sacrificing the stretch performance. DOW XLA™ integrates seamlessly into the base cotton fiber maintaining the authentic cotton feel but with the benefit of comfortable, breathable stretch. Additionally, processing efficiencies and color consistency can be achieved in multi-dimensional stretch denim with DOW XLA™ fiber due to its ability to be rope dyed in warp fabrics.
“DOW XLA™ Re:Flex4™ is the next evolution in denim. Designers and consumers were looking for new denim innovations and we responded, providing the answer to their toughest fit and comfort questions. By matching the body’s natural movement in every way, DOW XLA™ Re:Flex4™ offers an irresistible combination of comfort, fit and durability.” Holiday Watson, Global Brand Communications Manager for Dow Fiber Solutions.

Fall/Winter 2010 Trend Presentation Featuring DOW XLA™ Hosted by Renowned Fashion Consultant, Bengt Jacobsson
New York, NY – May 04, 2009
Dow Fiber Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, with Paris based Fashion Consultant, Bengt Jacobsson, present insights into the future of fashion with their bi-annual trend presentations on May 12th, 2009 at the company’s New York showroom. This will be the eighth consecutive trend presentation, with over 60 fabrics showcased from global mill partners, bringing to life the key trends for Fall/Winter 2010 inspired by DOW XLA™ fiber.
The trend presentation for Fall/Winter 2010 is driven by one main theme; Fashion meets Fiction, exploring how people find comfort in fairytales and stories, movies and the virtual world to escape the unsettling challenges from the current global economic climate. The trends for the season highlight innovation and technology at its best with DOW XLA™ the world’s first and only olefin-based stretch fiber which enables consumers to experience unmatched fit, comfort and performance and allows brand owners to express their creative vision without the limitations typically posed by other stretch fibers.
For Fall/Winter 2010, Fashion meets Fiction will be discovered through three major trends: Folk Tales, Screenplay and Virtual Escape.
Folk Tales: Inspired by legends of the past, fables and storytelling, clothing translates into looser silhouettes that are authentically rustic, emphasizing true ease and comfort enhanced by XLA™ fiber. The effortlessly chic look is driven by natural pigments and organic dyes and complement fabrics that blend natural fibers with XLA™, providing clothing optimum strength, stretch and flexibility for long-lasting wear and performance over time.
Screenplay: Features elegant and sophisticated "Hollywood" styles with soft-tones that evoke a beautiful retro-feel. Impeccably tailored suits and crisp dress shirts remain fresh with true non-iron finishes without sacrificing fit or comfort. Rich "in-between" shades of grayed browns and mauve neutrals shine in structured jackets and draped gowns.
Virtual Escape: Takes us into the future embracing fashion that is experimental, yet wearable. Innovative textile technology enabled by XLA™ enhances the aerodynamic demands of “action wear” with new advancements in bi-stretch denim that moves with the body providing an irresistible combination of fit, comfort and all day performance. Dark and pale colors feel new in the technical fabrics, while vibrant brights add intensity as accents.
DOW XLA™ continues to revolutionize the way designers create and how people express themselves through style and fashion.
Dow Fiber Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is dedicated to pioneering innovations for the global textile industry by matching proactive research and development expertise with the creative vision of retailers, designers, and manufacturers – to meet consumer needs. The business has established a customer base in Europe, Asia/Pacific, the United States and South America to produce fabrics made with DOW XLA™ elastic fiber. Argo Taps North American Market for Growth with New Fabrics for Workwear Featuring DOW XLA™ Stretch Fiber
New York, NY – April 27, 2009
Argo Workwear, a leading manufacturer of fabrics for the European workwear market, is targeting North America with a new line of workwear fabrics, many featuring DOW XLA™ fiber from Dow Fiber Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company. These innovative fabrics will be introduced at the Clean Show in New Orleans in June.
“Argo has an established reputation in the European market for producing high quality workwear fabrics,” said Peter Cook, U.S. and Europe business manager for Argo. “We have combined that superior level of quality with an innovative product development program to create new fabrics that meet the needs of North American businesses and their workers for more comfortable, more functional and more durable workwear.”
“We are focusing on a new generation of poly/cotton blends with DOW XLA™ stretch fiber, with the option to add the unique EPIC® encapsulation technology for all-weather protection and ‘indoor outdoor’ clothing. The entire range has been tested to withstand high temperature laundering and tunnel drying,” adds Cook.
DOW XLA™, the world’s first and only olefin-based stretch fiber, adds value to uniforms and other garments with its soft stretch for comfort and unrestricted movement and its inherent resistance to high temperatures and harsh chemicals used in typical industrial launderings. The Epic® by Nextec encapsulation process places an ultra-thin polymer around the individual woven fabric fibers to provide all-weather protection without sacrificing breathability, comfort, hand or stretch. The Epic® encapsulation is processed at elevated temperatures, making DOW XLA™ uniquely suited for these fabrics. Combining these two breakthrough technologies has enabled Argo to produce a fabric that makes uniforms more comfortable and durable, and offers the ultimate in all-weather performance.
"The partnership between Argo and Dow Fiber Solutions is a plus for the entire workwear industry," said Cathy Knowles, Dow Fiber Solutions global marketing manager. "Workers, along with rental and laundry services, will benefit from garments that have an unsurpassed level of comfort and durability, Argo benefits by expanding their fabric range with XLA™ and Dow benefits from aligning with a leading fabric and garment manufacturer serving this important market."
Argo will also introduce fabrics combining DOW XLA™ fiber and TREVIRA Bioactive® technology to provide both durable stretch and antibacterial properties that are resistant to high temperature laundering.
Join us at the 2009 Clean Show, Argo Workwear Booth #2867.

Dow Fiber Solutions Partners with Paige Premium Denim to Launch Next Generation DOW XLA™ Fiber in Exclusive Paigeaholic Jean
Midland, MI – March 4, 2009
At the forefront of cutting edge fashion and technology, Dow Fiber Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is dedicated to pioneering innovations for the textile industry; pushing boundaries in order to redesign the rules. Dow Fiber Solutions has partnered with Paige Premium Denim to launch Next Generation DOW XLA™ fiber in an exclusive “Paigeaholic” jean. The world’s first and only olefin-based stretch fiber, DOW XLA™ offers limitless possibilities and breakthrough benefits for the treatment, durability, and comfort of denim.
The “Paigeaholic” jean was inspired by the recently released Touchstone Pictures’/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ movie, “Confessions of a Shopaholic”, starring Isla Fisher, and is made of the finest premium materials including DOW XLA™ stretch fiber for a superior fit that retains its color and shape better. The jeans are branded with a special hangtag and in-store signage utilizing the “Shopaholic” movie iconography. Customers were encouraged to trial and purchase the “Paigeaholic” jean in-store by receiving a voucher to see the “Shopaholic” movie free for trying on the jean. To complement the in-store promotions, a “Paigeaholic” micro-site was launched on the Paige website, www.paigeusa.com, and a Paigeaholic giveaway was activated on style websites and blogs.
Dow Fiber Solutions has aggressively penetrated DOW XLA™ fiber in the denim market with premier partners at all levels of the supply chain, from world-class denim textile mills to globally recognized consumer brands. Holiday Watson, global public affairs and brand leader for Dow Fiber Solutions, says, “The collaboration with Paige Premium Denim to launch the ‘Paigeaholic’ jean demonstrates the strength of Dow Fiber Solutions’ market-facing strategy and directly connects us to our partners throughout the value chain to ultimately deliver a superior fitting jean that the consumer demands. These types of collaborative partnerships also play an important role to influence other global brand leaders to use DOW XLA™ fiber to bring differentiated value to the market.”
Paige designer, Paige Adams-Geller, says, “I am thrilled that Paige Denim is part of ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ as the movie’s star, Isla Fisher, has been a ‘Paigeaholic’ since our brand launched. The ‘Paigeaholic’ jean was inspired by Fisher’s cheeky character – a gal that echoes my own love of fashion. When Disney came to us with the opportunity to partner on the film we were thrilled to enhance that promotion by also working with DOW XLA™ to create a sexy and wearable jean for Shopaholics everywhere.”
Resilient, high-performance DOW XLA™ olefin-based premium stretch fiber offers creative freedom for designers to “Redesign the Rules.” When DOW XLA™ is fully incorporated into any garment it ensures an incredible fit, luxurious feel, and longer shape retention. It inherently resists high heat and harsh chemical treatments, redesigning the rules for a variety of never seen before effects. DOW XLA™ changes the traditional manufacturing restrictions for denim apparel as innovative washes can be applied by bleaching, stonewashing, distressing, and imprinting without sacrificing the original stretch quality and utmost comfort. It integrates seamlessly into the base cotton fiber maintaining the authentic cotton feel but with the benefit of comfortable, breathable stretch.
DOW XLA™ is a favorite not only of designers, but also of fabric mills and garment manufacturers around the world. Fabric width can be increased in mill processing, giving a better garment yield, and the fiber has virtually no process limitations. It allows mills with rope dyeing facilities to process warp stretch fabrics, eliminating problems of yarn entangling or extra work in rebeaming. Mills can also process large production lots with excellent color consistency when using DOW XLA™.

DOW XLA™ : REDESIGN THE RULES
NEW YORK – At the forefront of cutting edge fashion and technology, Dow Fiber Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is dedicated to pioneering innovations for the textile industry; pushing boundaries in order to redesign the rules. With the breakthrough benefits of DOW XLA™, the world's first olefin-based stretch fiber, the way apparel looks, feels and fits is completely evolved.

Launching a new comprehensive, multi-media advertising campaign for DOW XLA™ in an evocative and engaging format, Syrup created a visually stimulating series of seductive print ads and videos designed to challenge conventions and connect with the fashion industry on a universal human level – the desire for breakthroughs that evolve the way we interact with the world. The goal is to redesign the way the industry designs apparel and fabric and how the consumer wears clothing. The new campaign was inspired by a simple question; "What if one fiber could revolutionize the way designers create, how people feel in their clothes, how they look and how they take care of their apparel?"

Inviting the viewer to experience the benefits of DOW XLA™ fiber, the video takes us on a journey through each of the benefits – design superiority, performance, fit and durability – in core fashion categories – ready to wear, denim and swimwear. Red Engine Introduces Blue Velvet a Beautiful Blend of Luxury, Performance & Environmental Consciousness
LOS ANGELES – Premium denim manufacturer Red Engine introduces Blue Velvet – a jean where the ultimate in luxury and stretch performance meet environmental consciousness, melded in a perfect blend of fit, softness, and sustainable promise of minimal ecological impact.
Available immediately in Red Engine’s signature sexy low rise bootcut style "Scarlett,” this new denim/wash is called Blue Velvet "because it’s the softest, most lush denim we’ve ever found,” said James Boldes, company owner and Technical Designer. Offered by an exclusive Japanese denim mill that produces limited runs, Red Engine quickly secured all that it could for its high quality line.
Blue Velvet combines the superior performance of two premium fibers, Supima cotton and DOW XLA™ stretch fiber. Supima cotton is ultra soft, longer staple cotton that provides greater strength and drape. XLA™ fiber adds just the right amount of stretch and is proven to improve long-term durability and shape retention, even after the unique wash applied to Blue Velvet. This lightweight denim is wonderfully soft and infinitely more comfortable than typical denims. "Everyone who has felt this denim has to have a pair—or two! It is finding huge success with our discerning Red Engine customers. Blue Velvet is like butter!” added Boldes.
And, Blue Velvet is an environmentally friendlier choice for today’s discerning consumer. The raw materials that go in to producing DOW XLA™ fiber have one of the lowest gross energy requirements per pound than other elastic fibers. Plus, third-party testing organization Oeko-Tex has certified that DOW XLA™ does not contain harmful substances, such as heavy metals and pesticides, to the Standard 100 criteria.* Blue Velvet retails in better boutiques nationwide for approx $160.

Men's Leisure-Wear Gets Smart with Revolutionary Fiber
Leading German Shirt Maker Joins World's Top Brands in Introducing DOW XLA™ Fiber
Horgen - June 26, 2008
As daily life gets busier, men just can't get enough of easy-wear, easy-care textiles. Non-iron stretch shirts for men are featuring more prominently than ever before on fashion catwalks across Europe. Now, leading German shirt maker CasaModa has embraced science to introduce eight durable, non-iron smart-casual sports shirts to its Premium range. The shirts are made with revolutionary DOW XLA™ stretch fiber, the only stretch fiber that can support a true non-iron finish. Other fibers tend to break away as a result of the rigorous process and finishes applied.
The flexibility and easy-care properties of DOW XLA™ combined with CasaModa's patented process to prevent puckering at the seams, have resulted in shirts that always look crisp and smooth with a top-quality, non-iron finish. The collared shirts are available in black and white as well as various bold, fresh colours, with both long and short sleeves.
"DOW XLA™ is a case in point," Klaus Katt, CEO of CasaModa said. "As the only stretch fiber that can support a true non-iron finish it enhances the look, hand feel, freedom of movement and longevity of our shirts. It's also incredibly durable, and able to withstand machine washing and tumble drying at high temperatures, holding color and retaining its shape over time -- something we find very attractive for our high quality brand."
CasaModa's shirts are worn and modeled by German television personality Jörg Pilawa. "Many of today's professionals travel extensively and live out of suitcases, making CasaModa's shirts the perfect answer to their need for low maintenance clothing," Pilawa said. "As someone who not only travels extensively but who is also often in the public eye these shirts perfectly meet my need for easy-care smartness. When I take them out of the suitcase they look crisp and fresh and don't require ironing".
CasaModa uses DOW XLA™ fiber throughout its Premium range, which also comprises business shirts, in its CasaModa top line and its slim-fit Venti line. It plans to integrate the fiber into further shirt collections in 2009.
CasaModa's Premium sports shirts are now available at the CasaModa stores in Hamburg, Berlin and Cologne as well as at Käferlein in Nuremberg and Breiter in Munich. For more information on retailers please visit http://www.casamoda.com
"Through strengthening Dow's market-facing focus, our technology leadership and market understanding, we are finding innovative new ways to help our customers succeed so they can ultimately fulfill consumer needs. The partnerships with high-profile fashion brands such as CasaModa prove that Dow is a highly innovative company which constantly improves what's essential to human progress," said Mark Remmert, global business director, Dow Fiber Solutions. The fashion industry is rapidly incorporating DOW XLA™ in designs and collections where sculpting, durability and ease of care are important. The fiber is being used by Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Burberry Japan, and many more.
