Due to the mild, very moist winter without an extended vegetation pause, a relatively early first cut can be expected. Unless winter weather sets in again; however the probability of this decreases every day. This development will promote good bulk yields. On the other hand, a higher contamination with bacteria that disrupt fermentation as well as moulds can be expected as a result. Specific use of silage additives to prevent the negative effects of these organisms is therefore recommended. As it is now official that climate change is underway, more extreme weather events must be expected. As a result, longer periods of heat will be experienced during the warmer half of the year - as in the summer of 2006. For the use of stretch films, this means that special attention must be paid to their UV-stability. For storage over a year, protective fleeces should be used to prevent film damage. |
