Overview
In rubber and plastics applications, polyalkylene glycols (PAGs) are primarily used as mold release agents and lubricants. PAGs serve as good mold release agents because they:

  • do not dissolve or react with the product being molded
  • exhibit a low vapor pressure
  • exhibit ease of application and removal
  • form a film on the mold surface
  • leave no deposit or residue on the mold
  • offer some lubricating action

Products
UCON Fluids, including UCON 50 HB 5100 lubricant, can be used in rubber and plastics applications.

Specific Applications
Mold and mandrel lubricants
The higher molecular weight polyglycols are used as mold and mandrel lubricants in the production of fire hose, rubber hose, and shoe heels.
