Polypropylene Glycols and Copolymers Europe

Food Processing

Overview
DOWFAX* Nonionic Surfactants and polypropylene glycols are widely used in a range of foam control applications, as stand-alone products, or as neat components of foam-control formulations. Although they can be used as single active ingredient in water, most foam control systems include various components in synergy. They can be reacted to form diethers, esters, amines and acetals. Typical applications include sugar processing, fermentation (yeast, citric acid, vitamin, alcohol, penicillin, mono-sodium glutamate), vegetable washing and further food processing, chemical processing, and also acid gas treatment, mining and oil drilling, textile manufacturing, and paper processing. Main derivatives are esters which degree of esterification and the acid choice are key factors for performance.

Products
The following products can be used in foam control applications. Although each product has unique properties based on molecular weight and the monomer used, they all share some common properties. DOWFAX Nonionic Surfactants are efficient foam control agents by having low foam characteristics and inverse water solubility. The optimum operating temperature for defoaming characteristics is 10°C to 15°C above the nonionic surfactant's cloud point in the processing system.
