Foam Control
Overview
Dow produces several products that are useful as both antifoaming and defoaming agents. As antifoaming agents, these products are added to aqueous systems to prevent the formation of foam. If foam has already formed, they can be used to eliminate it. DOW polypropylene glycols (PPGs) are:
- 100% active liquids
- compatible with a wide range of processes
- inert and stable foam control agents
- low in toxicity
- non-corrosive
- nonionic
- pH stable
- water insoluble with low surface tension, so they spread quickly across a liquid surface
DOWFAX Nonionic Surfactants are efficient foam control agents by having low foam characteristics and inverse water solubility. The optimum operating temperature for defoaming characteristics is 10°C to 15°C above the nonionic surfactant's cloud point in the processing system.
Products
The following products can be used in foam control applications. Although each product has unique properties based on molecular weight and the monomer used, they all share some common properties.
