CARBOWAX SENTRY™ Polyethylene Glycols (PEGs) and Methoxypolyethylene Glycols (MPEGs) are a family of water-soluble linear polymers formed by the addition reaction of ethylene oxide. The generalized formula for polyethylene glycol is: H-(OCH2CH2)n-OH and for methoxypolyethylene glycol is: CH3-(OCH2CH2)n-OH where "n" is the average number of repeating oxyethylene groups. CARBOWAX SENTRY MPEGs are primarily used as intermediates in the synthesis of pharmaceutical actives. CARBOWAX SENTRY PEGs are used as bases in ointments and suppositories, as binders and coatings in tableting, as carriers in liquid preparations and gelatin capsules, as lubricants, suspending agents, and as plasticizers in film coatings. Each CARBOWAX SENTRY PEG or MPEG is designated by a number that represents its average molecular weight. For example, CARBOWAX SENTRY PEG 600 consists of a distribution of polymers of varying molecular weights with an average of 600, which corresponds to an approximate average number of repeating oxyethylene groups ("n") of 13. CARBOWAX SENTRY PEGs are available in average molecular weights ranging from 300 to 8000, and CARBOWAX SENTRY MPEGs are available in average molecular weights ranging from 350 to 750.
