Dow Presents its DOWLEX™ PE-RT offer for industrial pipe applications at Middle East Plastic Pipes Conference 2011 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Horgen, Switzerland - May 16, 2011 Dow Europe GmbH (Dow) is participating as of today in AMI’s 4th international conference Middle East Plastic Pipes 2011, a 3-day event which focuses on the applications, markets and technology for plastic pipes, taking place in Dubai (UAE) from 16th to 18th May 2011. During the event, Dow will highlight its DOWLEX™ PE-RT (Polyethylene of Raised Temperature Resistance) offer for industrial pipe applications with a presentation given by Detlef Schramm, technical leader for Pipes and Geomembranes, on Wednesday 18th May 2011, at 9:10 am (local time, + 4 hours from GMT), during the 2nd session of the conference dedicated on specialized pipes. The conference includes leading expert presentations, and provides a forum to debate the latest developments in materials, manufacturing technology, installation and applications of plastic pipe in a wide variety of construction projects. "Building on close to 30 years of success with our DOWLEX™ PE-RT Resins in domestic hot and cold water piping systems, Dow has recently commercialized DOWLEX 2377, a PE-RT resin suitable for use in large diameter industrial pipe applications such as geothermal pipes, district heating pipes, road cooling and heating pipes, bio-gas storage and management systems, sub-sea risers, swagelining and multi-layer stainless steel pipes," said Schramm. The new resin has many advantages: it does not need to be cross-linked, which enables reduced waste and higher line speed during extrusion compared to cross-linked polyethylene (PEX), especially when used in composite pipes with other materials. For ease of installation, industrial pipes based on DOWLEX 2377 offer excellent flexibility, abrasive resistance and can be connected via heat fusion welding or the use of mechanical fittings. "Compared to regular polyethylene, which cannot be used at elevated temperatures in industrial pipe applications, DOWLEX 2377 is an attractive alternative for industrial pipe extruders because its distinctive molecular structure offers excellent long-term hydrostatic strength at high temperatures," added Schramm. "Up to today, over 2 million kilometers of DOWLEX PE-RT pipes have been produced in Europe. Dow is a leading supplier that can demonstrate advanced solutions for pipe applications and we are obviously committed to the Middle East market," concluded Schramm.
