Dow's business in Greater China dated back to 1930s, when it supplied China with its products through trading agents. Dow opened its Hong Kong office in 1957 and Taiwan office in 1968. In 1979, Dow formally established its first China office in Guangzhou in response to China's open door policy. Today, Dow maintains a total of 5 business centers across Greater China in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei and Hong Kong. Dow established Dow Chemical (China) Investment Co., Ltd. in 1998 as the holding company to manage future Dow investments in China. In August 2004, Shanghai became Dow Greater China's headquarters.

Dow is also actively expanding its manufacturing base in region. It now has 10 manufacturing sites and joint ventures in the Greater China Area including Ningbo, Zhongshan, Zhangjiagang, Nankang and Tsing Yi, etc.
