Recycled Paperboard

When used in coatings for recycled board, our latexes help to improve coating smoothness and compressibility for rotogravure printing applications while providing the dry and wet strength necessary for sheet offset printing. Our latexes can help improve glueability, flexibility, and scorability on the packaging line.

Dow also offers latex binders and plastic pigments tailored to respond to the temperature and pressure conditions of on-machine soft nip calenders—for higher gloss and smoothness and outstanding print graphics.

Solid Bleached Sulfate Paperboard

If you'd like to improve the quality of your SBS paperboard, we can help. With the help of specialized DOW latexes, you can run coating formulations containing high levels of calcium carbonate on blade coaters at higher solids with better blade runnability. The resulting paperboard is brighter, smoother, and produces less print mottle. We can help you achieve these results with little or no increase in cost—by reducing binder levels, optimizing the split between base and top coat weights, and eliminating cobinders such as protein.

Coated Unbleached Kraft

Our latexes for coated unbleached kraft help improve appearance and coverage while reducing the total coating cost. Because of the need to cover brown board, our high strength binders are fine tuned to improve the total performance and appearance of the final product. We also offer technologies with enhanced glue performance and optimized interaction with natural cobinders to further increase performance and appearance.
