Dow to Showcase Innovative Portfolio of Adhesives and Release Coating Solutions for Functional Films, Specialty Tapes and Labels at Labelexpo ASIA 2017

New Technologies Demonstrate Commitment to Performance and Sustainability

Dow Performance Silicones, a global business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, will exhibit at Labelexpo Asia 2017, Dec 5-8, 2017, at Booth F23. The company will showcase its portfolio of differentiated high-value solutions under the theme “Reliability in Every Innovation”. In doing so, Dow will address the latest technology advancements across the pressure sensitive industry which are driving demand for release coating and PSA solutions suitable for challenging paper and film label applications and industrial after market screen protection. The company will also demonstrate how its commitment to science drives additive formulations that meet the growing array of sustainability standards which manufacturers are held accountable to today.

Silicone Coatings for High-performance Release Liners

Dow Performance Silicones will exhibit several families of release coatings for demanding applications, including emerging filmic substrates. The company’s solvent-based LTC Release Coating series (including Dow Corning TORAY LTC 759 Coating, Syl-Off® LTC 761 Coating, Syl-Off® LTC 310 and Syl-Off® LTC 750A Dispersion), for example, is designed for premium release liners in electronics applications that require optical transparency and highly stable release force. These products facilitate converting by enabling improved conversion speeds at lower temperatures. Well suited for a variety of substrates, the Syl-Off® brand silicone release coating system is an innovative solution that enhances most applications, and facilitates the exploration of new market opportunities with greater confidence.

Additionally, to meet growing adoption of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates, new Syl-Off® EM-7953 Release Coating and associated new Syl-Off® EM-7993 Crosslinker have been developed for both in-line and off-line coating of PET film liners. They address the need for greater flexibility in filmic release liner applications. This new technology provides low, stable release with lower coat weight.

Dow’s water-based emulsion release coatings complement solvent-less release coatings and provide a new option for meeting environmental, health and safety regulations. These emulsion release coatings, also on display at the company’s booth, combine better surface performance with lower coat weight on film substrates to deliver lower usage cost, making them ideal for new filmic substrates, such as those made from PET.

Silicone & Acrylic Adhesives for Protective Film

Dow Performance Silicones is also featuring at Labelexpo 2017 a comprehensive portfolio of PSAs for protective films used throughout the lifecycle of electronic devices. Dow silicone PSAs deliver significant advantages for such applications, including better wet-out and heat resistance; more-stable adhesion and anchorage over time to prevent migration; greater optical clarity (non-yellowing); cleaner removal without residues; and easier repositioning. For instance, Dow Corning® 7666 Adhesive is a low-adhesion, solvent-less, platinum-cure PSA designed specifically for protective films used in processing and assembly of electronic devices. It offers highly stable adhesion control and cost-effectiveness, and can be used together with mid- to high-adhesion PSAs such as Dow Corning® 7657 Adhesives and Dow Corning® 7667 Adhesives.

In addition, new Syl-Off® SB 9186 Release Coating, a solvent-based product, delivers both low release force and a high subsequent adhesion (SAS) while maintaining a good surface appearance. Target applications for this product are processing films, such as release liners for die-cut protective films that require low, stable release force combined with minimal impact on processing.

The latest additions to the Dow ROBOND™ acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives portfolio suitable for challenging labelling applications such as beverage, personal care or pharma will also be on hand at Labelexpo 2017.

These solutions offer excellent adhesion on a broad variety of substrates; superior water whitening resistance; high transparency, suitable for a "no label" look; and improved processing technology and application speed.

With label stock producers and converters operating in an increasingly competitive market, facing material and processing cost pressure, Dow addresses this trend with its wide portfolio of value added products which provide a competitive edge. Equally important, Dow’s portfolio of advanced coatings and adhesives represent enhanced formulations which address sustainable manufacturing challenges and promise to meet demanding environmental trends.

“With the theme “Reliability in Every Innovation,” we exemplify our collaborative approach with local partners to drive meaningful innovations for the pressure sensitive industry, enable them to serve attractive industry segments and benefit from cost and sustainability advantages,” says Charlie Zimmer, Global Strategic Marketing Director of Packaging, Elastomers, Electrical and Telecommunications of Dow Performance Silicones, “As part of the The Dow Chemical Company we combine our strengths in R&D, industry expertise and worldwide geographic reach, to provide our customers with preferential access to a reliable, full-service supplier that can help solve their toughest challenges."

Dow experts are on hand at the show to discuss how Dow’s full-service portfolio for the labelling industry fulfills the present and future needs of customers and key global and regional industry players.
