New Narrow Joint Seam Sealant for Fenestration Assemblies Delivers Silicone Performance at Organic-competitive Prices
DOW CORNING® 1299 Silicone Seam Sealer Outperforms Traditional Acrylic Sealants in Narrow Seam Applications
To help fenestration manufacturers meet stricter energy codes and consumer demands for energy-saving window and door assemblies, Dow Corning has introduced a new silicone sealant that delivers durable, long-lasting performance. Providing fast, easy and effective protection from air infiltration and water penetration in window and door assemblies, new DOW CORNING® 1299 Silicone Seam Sealer can be used to seal critical junctions in framing assemblies of window and doors to manage uncontrolled air infiltration and water penetration. Intended to replace traditional organic sealants, such as solvent-based acrylics, this one-part, neutral-cure RTV sealant delivers the proven performance of silicone at the competitive pricing levels typically associated with organics.
"The seam sealer is self-leveling, flowing into narrow joints and over fasteners without any tooling, reducing labor costs," said Arturo Cuéllar, Dow Corning’s global market leader for High Performance Building. "The product meets AAMA specifications for Narrow Joint Seam Sealant and has good adhesion to common window and door materials."
Compared to conventional acrylic offerings, DOW CORNING 1299 Silicone Seam Sealer has low odor and is VOC content complian to requirements in SCAQMD Rule 1168. Because its 100% silicone formulation isn’t extended with oil or solvents, there is little, if any, shrinkage.
DOW CORNING 1299 Silicone Seam Sealer helps prevent air and water infiltration through window and door components – enabling the energy savings demanded by today’s consumers. And the sealant’s silicone formulation provides long-term performance and durability; it will not crack, degrade or discolor, helping to ensure longer-lasting windows and doors," Cuéllar said.
