Improve Dispersion of HFFR Additives
The performance of compounds depends on multiple parameters such as matrix and filler properties, as well as the quality of the dispersion and the interactions formed at the interface of the matrix and the filler. For instance, good dispersion of aluminum tri-hydroxide (ATH) and magnesium hydroxide (MDH) within the polymer matrix is critical to achieving a high limiting oxygen index (LOI) value - a key factor in reducing polymer flammability. However, dispersion can be a challenge due to the high loadings of these halogen-free flame retardants (HFFRs) in filled systems such as wire& cable insulation.
Our silicone solutions effectively and evenly disperse ATH and MDH fillers throughout polyolefins, polyolefin elastomers and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). They deliver a higher LOI value than competitive products such as vinylsilanes, aminosilanes and maleic anhydrous graft copolymers.
Our technology reduces water uptake in wire and cable insulation by 50% or more by treating the surface of hydroscopic fillers (such as ATH and MDH). This process also prevents agglomeration, which can impact FR performance and key resin properties such as flexural modulus.
