Williams Serves as Keynote Speaker at Texas A&M Event for Women in Science and Engineering
As an experienced research scientist turned human resources leader who is now dedicated to the coaching and development of talent across the STEM disciplines, Alveda J. Williams had an inspiring story to tell as the keynote speaker at the Texas A&M University Conference for Women in Science and Engineering.
Williams, Associate Human Resources Director for Dow in Freeport, Texas, has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a doctorate in materials chemistry. She has earned the Golden Torch Award for Corporate Diversity Leadership from the National Society of Black Engineers, the Dow Transformation in Action Award and the Council for Chemical Research Diversity Award. Recently, Williams was named to Diversity Journal’s 2015 Women Worth Watching list.
The conference, Feb. 21 on the Texas A&M campus, was titled Leveling the Playing Field: Strength Through Diversity. About 150 undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff members from a variety of STEM disciplines took part.
