STEM Impact Initiative Earns Connect Award from Michigan Governor
Cooperation between regional industry, education and public-sector leaders to improve STEM education has earned a special award from Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder.
Snyder presented leaders of the Great Lakes Bay Region STEM Impact Initiative with the Connect Award during the Governor's Economic Development and Education Summit on March 3. It was one of three awards given by the governor during the summit.
The Initiative analyzed the STEM opportunities available to students in Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region, which includes Midland, site of Dow’s world headquarters. It also identified ways to improve those opportunities, and set up systems to put the plans into action. Dow was the largest financial contributor to the Initiative, and several employees had key leadership roles in making the Initiative successful.
"These local businesses, schools, and organizations are working together in really exciting ways to build a talent pipeline that will keep Michigan's economy moving for generations," Snyder said in a statement.
