Dow Engineers Provide Career Insight to Los Medanos College Students

Several engineers at Dow’s Pittsburg site in California have helped students at nearby Los Medanos College prepare to successfully transition into the working world, and the students are expressing their gratitude.

According to a post on “Experience,” the college’s online news outlet, five students in the Los Medanos STEM Transfer Program have been matched with Dow engineers to help ease the transition and provide more information on the careers they have chosen.

“She’s a really cool person,” student Adam Alemnew said of his mentor, Ninoshka Cantres-Santiago, a Production Engineer at Dow who takes time in her off hours to help him “establish a basis” and get an overview of what to expect when setting out in the career he has chosen. “She can really relate.”

Students also get to shadow their mentors on the jobsite for a full day, providing first-hand insight into what to expect in their future professions.

Muhummad Gheith, Coordinator of the STEM Scholar program, said the college is also greatly appreciative of the Dow mentors.

“They just can’t wait to give back to the community on their end,” Gheith said.
