Visitors to West Alexandria Site Gain Insight Into Potential Careers
A visiting student takes part in activities organized by Dow’s West Alexandria, Ohio, site tied to National Manufacturing Day.
Sophomores from two different high schools visited the Dow site in West Alexandria, Ohio, for activities tied to National Manufacturing Day, learning not only about science, but also about the career potential of STEM skills.
About 150 students, teachers, guidance counselors and others toured the facility. Site employees served as tour guides and presenters, highlighting what manufacturing really looks like and the skills and education required for various roles at the site.
As part of the event, students also participated in some hands-on activities that were hosted by the local community college and career technical center.
“It was a great example of partnership among all five schools in our county, manufacturing, the local chamber, economic development and the post-high-school educators,” said Kathy Schulz, West Alexandria Site Leader. “Our employees really enjoyed the event as well.”
A proclamation from the State Treasurer of Ohio recognized both the event and Dow’s role in making National Manufacturing Day an occasion for outreach to students by many Ohio companies.
