SEAC: Sustainability External
Advisory Council

Dow's Sustainability External Advisory Council (SEAC) brings a diverse outside-in perspective on environment, health and safety, and sustainability issues for the company.

Since its formation in 1992, the SEAC has had a major influence on Dow's approach to environment, health and safety, and sustainability issues, and has played a critical role in developing our 2015 and 2025 Sustainability Goals. The Council is currently composed of thought leaders from around the world and is chaired by Andre Argenton, vice president, Environment, Health and Safety, and chief sustainability officer.

Council members include leaders from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academia, the business community and governments, as well as the environmental and sustainability communities.

Members do not represent any particular organization but bring their knowledge, experience and understanding to share with senior Dow managers and the Dow leadership team.

SEAC meetings usually take place over two and a half days, addressing agenda items that have been suggested by Dow and the Council. The format includes sharing of information, in-depth exploration, and discussion of practical applications.

The Council addresses four interrelated
factors affecting Dow's success:

The Council provides insights relating to overall corporate strategy, e.g. corporate energy policies and next-generation goals. The Council helps identify stakeholder concerns, attitudes and perceptions.

Business/Portfolio Success factors:

The Council is a great forum for Dow's business leaders and independent external thought leaders to reflect on a broad range of stakeholder interests. Council members provide informed feedback and identify business related issues, challenges, and opportunities.

Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement:

The Council plays a valuable role as a sounding board on the interface between Dow and the external world. Council members' familiarity and links with external groups allows engagement in broader stakeholder dialogue.

Trends and Externalities:

The Council provides an outside perspective on current and emerging global developments and challenges that help the company plan for a sustainable future.
