Emergency Procedures
Prior to responding to any chemical emergency, you must reference the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Small Spills (in contained area)
- Carefully dilute with water.
- Neutralize with weak acetic acid, if necessary.
- Vacuum up diluted and neutralized solution for reuse or disposal.
Large Spills (in contained area)
- Transfer as much caustic soda solution as possible to secure containers for reuse or disposal.
- Carefully dilute remaining caustic soda solution with water.
- Neutralize with weak acetic acid, if necessary.
- Vacuum up diluted and neutralized solution for reuse or disposal.
Spills in Uncontained Areas (e.g., soil, gravel, etc.)
- Contain spill and vacuum up as much caustic soda solution as possible for reuse or disposal.
- Dig up contaminated soil or gravel for disposal.
It is the responsibility of caustic soda solution users to follow any Country, State, provincial, or local regulations governing disposal. Never discharge caustic soda solution directly into sewers or streams. Releases (spills) of caustic soda solution to the environment may trigger reporting requirements to Country, State, provincial, and local authorities.
