AMBERLITE™ IRP69 is a powdered ion exchange resins that can be used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for hyperkalemia solutions and as a formulation excipient in a variety of pharmaceutical applications.
AMBERLITE™ resins have a broad range of applications, including taste masking, tablet disintegration, modified release and as excipients in the formulation of poorly soluble or unstable drug compounds.

Applications for AMBERLITE™ Ion Exchange Resins
When AMBERLITE™ IRP69 Ion Exchange Resin is ingested; it passes harmlessly through the body, collecting potassium while simultaneously releasing harmless calcium or sodium ions. The result is a safe and effective way to help patients with elevated potassium levels.
In the case of poorly soluble ionizable drugs, the release of drug from a resinate can be faster than the rate of dissolution of the solid form of the drug. Hence, with AMBERLITE™IRP69 ion exchange resin, one can increase the rate at which poorly soluble drugs dissolve.
We believe that this rapid dissolution occurs because of two factors:
- Each individual drug molecule is bound to a functional site. There is no crystal lattice energy to overcome.
- The ion exchange matrices are relatively hydrophilic and therefore allow water and aqueous solutions easy access into a 3-dimensional structure eliminating problems with wetting out the drug.
