AFFINISOL™ Solubility Enhancing Polymers
Solving the Insoluble with Dow
At Dow Pharma Solutions, we understand that the solubilization of a pipeline of poorly soluble drug candidates is the leading challenge facing the pharmaceutical industry.
Our AFFINISOL™ polymers are uniquely tailored to address the solubilization performance requirements of your active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), whether you have chosen to formulate via Spray-Dried Dispersion (SDD) or Hot Melt Extrusion (HME).
Applications for AFFINISOL™ Polymers
AFFINISOL™ HPMCAS
AFFINISOL™ Hypromellose Acetate Succinate (HPMCAS) is a soluble polymer that can help optimize solubility enhancement by maintaining stable solid dispersions and inhibiting API crystallization. In addition, AFFINISOL™ HPMCAS can be customized with distinct acetate and succinate substitution levels to maximize the solubility enhancement and nucleation inhibition of your API.
AFFINISOL™ High Productivity HPMCAS
For increased productivity in the spray drying process, Dow developed AFFINISOL™ High Productivity HPMCAS, which facilitates higher solids content in the spray solution for increased throughput in spray-drying while maintaining the solubility enhancement of standard HPMCAS.
AFFINISOL™ HPMC HME for Hot Melt Extrusion (HME) Formulations
AFFINISOL™ HPMC HME is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose designed for use in hot melt extrusion formulations by pharmaceutical companies looking to enhance the solubilization and inhibit the recrystallization of their APIs.
This cellulosic polymer maintains the familiar crystallization inhibiting properties of Hypromellose, a sustainable plant-based polymer, however AFFINISOL™ HPMC HME can be extruded over a wide temperature range and without the use of plasticizers. AFFINISOL™ HPMC HME simplifiesformulation requirements, helps improve physical stability, and provides versatility in drug release profiles.
Thanks to its lower glass transition temperature (Tg) and a greater processing window, AFFINISOL™ HPMC HME also provides drug formulators with new capabilities to formulate amorphous solid dispersions and controlled release profiles via extrusion processes.
