METHOCEL™ products are used in topical liquid pharmaceuticals because they are excellent thickeners (rheology modifier), improve emulsion stability, suspend solids, lubricate and retain moisture. The protective colloid action and emulsifying properties of METHOCEL™ also benefit many semi-solid formulations. The products can be used to prevent droplets and particles from coalescing or agglomerating. METHOCEL™ contributes to film-forming and secondary-thickening properties which improve after-feel and other sensory characteristics in creams and lotions.
CARBOWAX™ SENTRY™ PEGs
CARBOWAX™ SENTRY™ PEGs make excellent water-soluble ointment bases as they spread easily and evenly over the skin, even if moisture is present. Good water solubility can make it easy to incorporate aqueous ingredients. PEG ointment bases are preferred over traditional hydrophobic ointment bases as they effectively incorporate active ingredients but can be easily removed with water.
WALOCEL™ C Polymers
WALOCEL™ C polymers can control the rheological (flow) properties in semi-solid dosage forms including ointments, creams, gels and pastes. Whenever viscosity control, water absorption or water retention is required, WALOCEL™ C is an excellent choice.
