Achieve efficient foam control with low levels of defects

With new low-VOC binders, the reduction of co-solvent in formulations, and demands for increased speed in paint production and application, foam control is an ongoing challenge for today's waterborne paint and ink formulators.

Defoaming may be easy to achieve in some cases, but incompatibility between the defoamer and the formulation often leads to film defects.

Dow has applied its deep knowledge of silicone chemistry and extensive antifoam know-how to produce a range of waterborne defoamers that couple high levels of foam control efficiency with low levels of film defects.

Solutions for your waterborne foam-control challenges

For versatility – DOWSIL™ 69 Additive (an emulsion) and DOWSIL™ 8590 Additive (a self-dispersible compound) are the mainstays of our new range of waterborne antifoams and defoamers. These versatile silicone additives are designed for use in inks, overprint varnishes and all types of premium industrial and architectural paints with low to medium pigment volume concentrations.

For more challenging foam problems – DOWSIL™ 8603 Additive may be recommended.

For systems with co-solvent – DOWSIL™ 8610 Additive offers a high level of compatibility.

For low-temperature applications – DOWSIL™ 8590 Additive and DOWSIL™ 8610 Additive provide effective foam control at low temperatures.

For excellent defoaming and compatibility –DOWSIL™ 8628 Additive possesses a novel technology that, in select binder systems, enables formulators to achieve excellent defoaming performance coupled with excellent compatibility.

For APEO-free formulating – All of the products in this range are formulated without APEO.

    General purpose catalyst which is compatible with all Syl-off® brand solvent based and solventless release coating systems as well as Plantinum cure silicone PSAs.

  • DOWSIL™ 791 Weatherproofing Sealant
    A one-part, medium-modulus, elastomeric sealant designed for general weathersealing. It is a silicone formulation that cures to a flexible and curable silicone rubber building joint seal.

  • DOWSIL™ 983 Structural Glazing Sealant Base and Curing Agent

    Designed for specialized use where dual structural and weatherseal applications are desired for factory glazing and curtainwall production. Once cured, this structural sealant forms a durable, flexible, watertight bond that can be warranted for 20 years and used in ±25% movement weatherseal applications. It has excellent unprimed adhesion to glass, alodine, and anodized aluminum1, although DOWSIL™ Primer-C OS is recommended for fast and consistent adhesion, especially to high-performance substrates approved for architectural structural glazing applications.

  • DOWSIL™ 995 Silicone Structural Sealant
    A one-component, self-priming, shelf-stable, neutral-cure, elastomeric adhesive specifically formulated for silicone structural glazing and exhibits excellent unprimed adhesion to most building substrates. This product has superior unprimed adhesion for structural glazing applications for hurricane or impact rated windows and doors. It has a movement capability of +/- 50%.

  • SYL-OFF™ 7682-055 Crosslinker
    Solventless silicone crosslinker with applications including lamination/labelstock, industrial release papers, liners of tapes, non-stick packaging, non-stick food grade packaging, and film coating.

  • XIAMETER™ PMX-1503 Fluid
    A blend of an ultra high viscosity dimethiconol in a low viscosity dimethicone fluid for use in skincare, suncare, and color cosmetic applications. INCI Name: Dimethicone (and) Dimethiconol.
