UCON™ Oil Soluble PAG Technology Enabling Winning Performance for Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Dow Chevrolet SS

UCON OSP-based gear lubricants and premium greases are the latest “track-tested” innovations that deliver advanced performance in a range of applications

MIDLAND, Mich. - May 19, 2014

Whether you work for a NASCAR racing team or operate in an advanced manufacturing setting, winning is everything. That’s why Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has adopted a line of extreme performance lubricants, powered by UCONTM Oil Soluble PAG (OSP) technology from Dow (NYSE: DOW) for its cars in the 2014 season including the No. 3 Dow Chevrolet SS, driven by rising superstar Austin Dillon.

The latest innovations tested under the R&D partnership between Dow and RCR, 75W-90 and 75W-140 synthetic gear lubricants and premium grease, are delivering exceptional lubrication properties under the punishing conditions of a NASCAR race. This superior performance makes them a perfect fit for a wide range of automotive environments, as well as for gear lubricants, hydraulic, metalworking, compressor fluids and other demanding applications.

“New regulations at the beginning of the 2013 season placed even higher demands on the drivetrain in order to realize higher levels of vehicle performance,” said Dr. Govind Khemchandani, a grease expert and senior technical specialist for lubricants at Dow. “Working with Dow, RCR evaluated a range of new lubrication technologies, ultimately selecting a formulation based on these novel Dow OSP technologies.”

“Dow UCON™ OSP-based products are significantly better suited for our temperature ranges and operating environment than our previous options,” said Brandon Thomas, vehicle development engineer at RCR.

The performance benefits of UCON™ OSPs are among the many elements generating success this season for RCR, its driver -- rookie phenom Austin Dillon – and the return of the iconic No. 3 racecar. Dillon has recorded several top-25 finishes so far this NASCAR season, including a ninth-place finish in the 56th running of the Daytona 500.

Dow extended its partnership with RCR, one of NASCAR’s preeminent racing teams, and RCR driver Austin Dillon into the 2014 season and beyond. As part of the partnership, Dow and RCR are working together to advance automotive racing formulations to meet the challenges facing the sport today. This unique collaboration provides an opportunity to quickly test and validate the performance of new lubricants under very demanding conditions.
