Water Treatment Component Design Software from Dow Simplifies the Modeling Process and Saves Time
(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dow is bringing water treatment system modeling to your fingertips with new software that helps simplify and accelerate modeling of components, evaluate new or retrofit system designs, and plan construction of desalination water treatment systems.
Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), has designed Water Application Value Engine (WAVE)—a new digital modeling tool for customers that will save time and increase efficiency for evaluating components, as well as designing water treatment systems. The WAVE tool will be beta-launched to a pilot group of DW&PS customers this month, and is expected to launch commercially in 2015.
The innovative modeling software combines ultrafiltration membranes (UF), reverse osmosis membranes (RO) and ion exchange resins (IX) into one fully integrated tool that enables users to project accurate water quality predictions for single or multiple unit water treatment designs utilizing DW&PS technologies.
“No other supplier offers an integrated software program with the three components – ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and ion exchange – so it’s distinct in the market,” said Nanette Hermsen, associate marketing director at DW&PS. “By using the calculation engine from pretreatment to final polishing, you reduce data entry steps and ultimately save time modeling water treatment components to be used in a system design.”
The WAVE technology uses a powerful hydraulic modeling calculation engine which improves the accuracy of the model compared to previous technology. WAVE capabilities help engineers and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) configure water treatment components better and faster through integrating all DW&PS technologies into one tool - allowing for easier iterations as the design process proceeds. The WAVE tool also delivers accurate water quality predictions for multiple components simultaneously – reducing calculation errors and data re-entry from one calculation tool to another.
“The intuitive buttons and graphic-based, drag-and-drop interface allows users to design with ease, adjust variables and add processes as they configure the exact water treatment system they need,” said Hermsen.
The new water modeling program will be hosted on an IBM cloud platform which will allow users to operate the tool on a variety of devices: both Windows and Mac computers, tablets, and even mobile devices (Apple iOS/Android). The cloud hosting of the WAVE tool provides a powerful server to host complex programs while securing access to the information. With the capability to use the design software from any device connected to the Internet, approved users can access the WAVE software whenever and wherever they choose.
