Industry trends, innovations and new NORDEL™ EPDM capabilities give conference plenty to talk about

Subject-matter experts from Dow will attend the 2019 International Elastomers Conference to discuss new products and innovations in EPDM

MIDLAND, Mich. – Dow (NYSE: DOW) is attending the 2019 International Elastomers Conference (IEC) to talk with industry peers and lead discussions about industry trends, innovations and opportunities related to NORDEL™ EPDM.

Expanding NORDEL™ EPDM Portfolio

The NORDEL™ EPDM portfolio is expanding again in 2019 with two new tailored grades, NORDEL™ 4590 EPDM and NORDEL™ 4750 OE EPDM. The new grades help enable manufacturers to deliver durable, high-performance products for extruded profiles and TPV applications, including automotive weatherstripping, hoses, molded rubber goods, and building and construction materials. The new grades can improve manufacturing efficiency, including product handling, mixing, processing and high filler loading, and meet industry demands for lightweighting, safety and aesthetics.

“Innovation is at the core of everything we do, and it’s critical that we continue to create new NORDEL EPDM products that address industry and customer needs,” says Lena Nguyen, global technology leader for NORDEL™ EPDM, Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics. “With an over 50-year history in this space and close connections across the value chain, we stay on top of industry trends and turn those insights into innovations that improve our ever-evolving portfolio.”

Dow leaders will give presentations about application and manufacturing benefits of using NORDEL™ EPDM. These include:

  • “New NORDEL™ EPDM Products with High Mooney Viscosity, Oil Extended EPDM Pellets for Extruded Profiles” – Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 3:45 p.m.
    Lena Nguyen
will speak about how NORDEL™ EPDM is evolving to meet or exceed industry needs to improve manufacturing efficiency, sustainability and lightweighting, and better and safer manufacturing and fabrication processes and products.
  • “NORDEL™ EPDM Solution to Enable High Heat Resistant Applications” – Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9:00 a.m.
    Greg Li
, Dow research scientist, will discuss Dow’s work to study the role of additives to thermos-oxidative resistance of peroxide cured EPDM compound for the automotive coolant hose application.
  • “Oil Extended, Free Flow Pellet NORDEL™ EPDM for TPV and Extrusion Applications” – Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9:00 a.m.
    Xiaosong (Sharon) Wu
, Dow research scientist, will present a paper about recent development on a new oil extended free flow pellet form NORDEL™ EPDM for thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV) and extrusion applications.
  • “Improved Manufacturing Efficiency with NORDEL™ EPDM” – Thursday, Oct. 10 at 10:15 a.m.
    Intan Hamdan
, Dow research scientist, will present a paper about new polymer treatment technology that facilitates better dispersion for dense EPDM bales, improved product handling for semicrystalline EPDM pellets, and expands the window of low crystallinity materials available in pellet form for applications such as TPV.
