Environmentally Friendly Building Added to Community Facility
Sustainable Construction Materials from Dow Corning Help Make New Building a Showcase of Environmental Responsibility
The recently opened Jean & Sidney Silber Center at the Parks & People Green Workforce Development Center in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, is designed to LEED standards and showcases use of "green" building technologies, including materials from Dow Corning.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 14-by-45-foot prefabricated modular building took place June 14. Donated by the U.S. Green Building Council after being displayed at a previous Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, this addition to the Parks & People campus was constructed courtesy of the generosity of Building Design + Construction magazine, Ziger/Snead Architects, Synthesis, Modular Genius, and industry sponsors including Dow Corning. Featured as Building Design + Construction's GreenZone demonstration project at Greenbuild 2015, the modular structure offered conference attendees a close-up look at the latest sustainable building materials and techniques.
The "ultra-green" building features sustainable building materials from leading construction industry manufacturers. Featured materials from Dow Corning include:
- The DOW CORNING® Silicone Air Barrier System – a suite of fully compatible high-performance technologies designed to work in concert to help protect the building envelope. The system features low-VOC DOW CORNING® DefendAir 200 and a fully compatible suite of products: DOW CORNING® 778 Silicone Liquid Flashing, the DOW CORNING® Silicone Transition System (STS) and select Dow Corning® brand high-performance sealants.
- DOW CORNING® HPI-1000 Building Insulation Blanket (BIB) – high-performance thin insulation material that enables design freedom and minimizes losses from thermal bridging.

The Parks & People campus includes restored historic buildings, a LEED-Platinum-designed headquarters, and open space that will feature teaching gardens and play space. The Jean & Sidney Silber Center will house Branches, a high school environmental internship employment program.
