Dow Introduces First Oilfield Biocide for Extended Downhole Protection in Oil and Gas Operations in Canada
Bringing Proven Technology to the Canadian Oil and Gas Market that Improves HS&E, Productivity and Efficiency
Philadelphia, PA - December 01, 2016 - Dow Microbial Control, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), introduces TRIS(HYDROXYMETHYL)NITROMETHANE (THNM) in Canada, having successfully registered the product with the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) for microbial control in oil and gas operations. This is the first approved and registered oilfield biocide in Canada that provides microbial control for weeks to months in the extreme downhole environment with high salinity, pH and temperature.
THNM is a broad spectrum microbiocide that controls the growth of common oilfield bacteria, including Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) and Acid Producing Bacteria (APB), and helps prevent the biogenic formation of H2S (souring), biofouling, and microbially influenced corrosion of assets. “This is a welcome option as operators are looking to improve their HS&E profile and the productivity of operations, as well as reduce overall cost associated with downtime and the treatment of soured hydrocarbons,” said Michael Sheehan, commercial director for the Americas at Dow Microbial Control. “We are thrilled to be the first to offer the Canadian market a proven technology for extended downhole protection with AQUCAR™ TN 25 Water Treatment Microbiocide.”
In combination with fast acting biocides like Glutaraldehyde or DBNPA, THNM provides completion and production engineers with an integrated microbial control solution which prepares the water topside, decontaminates the well, and protects the hydrocarbons in the reservoir. The benefits of using a fast acting biocide and a preservative like THNM not only provides a more effective biocide program, but it can also reduce the overall amount of biocide needed.
Dow brings microbial control technologies to oil and gas operators through a network of highly trained service companies. For more information on THNM and extended downhole protection, visit http://client.dow.com/AQUCAR25.
