During this 45 minute technical presentation, Jon Raymond, Biocide Application Specialist, will discuss:

  • Factors that allow the proliferation of microorganisms during the hydraulic fracturing process
  • Problems associated with uncontrolled microbial growth
  • Overview of various types of antimicrobial chemistries used in oil and gas exploration and production
  • How to select the appropriate biocide(s) for hydraulic fracturing operations

Hydraulic Fracturing Operations

An optimized microbial control treatment program requires a strategy to address each of the three phases of hydraulic fracturing: preparing the water, decontaminating the well, and protecting the reservoir.

As a leader in optimized microbial control for hydraulic fracturing operations, Dow recommends biocides based on the conditions of each phase, considering temperature, salinity, aerobic and anaerobic conditions, and the desired duration of control. Each application is different and requires a tailored program to meet the needs of the specific system.
