AMBERLITE™ Ion Exchange Resins and Polymeric Adsorbents are available in a very wide range of chemical compositions and polymer structures and have been used for decades in a high-value applications including water treatment in industrial and power generation plants, drinking water, food processing, chemical processing, bioprocessing, and pharmaceutical formulations.


AMBERLITE™ IRN78 Ion Exchange Resin is a nuclear-grade, uniform particle size, gel, strong base anion exchange resin, supplied in the OH-form. It is processed to the highest purity standards required for treating water in the nuclear power industry. The manufacturing process for this resin is controlled to keep inorganic impurities at the lowest possible level. Special treatment procedures are also used to remove traces of soluble organic compounds. These high standards of resin purity will help keep nuclear systems free of contaminants and deposits, and help prevent increases in radioactivity levels due to activation of impurities in the reactor core. AMBERLITE IRN78 resin contains a minimum of 95% of the exchange sites in the hydroxide form and a maximum of 0.1% in the chloride form. The uniform particle size and the absence of fine resin beads results in a lower pressure drop compared to conventional resins. AMBERLITE IRN78 resin has been proven to be highly effective in the primary water treatment to remove iodine (I-131 and I-133), as well as traces of chloride contamination from reactor coolant systems; to control the boron level in the primary system; for radwaste treatment to remove radioactive anions such as I-131 and I-133 from waste systems; to remove of anionic radioactive material from spent decontaminating solutions; and in steam generator blow down purification to remove anionic impurities from secondary streams in the presence of ammonia, morpholine, or other amines at elevated pH.
