Primers (paint)

Enabling the highest paint performance requires the best paint preparation

A high-performance primer delivers key attributes to a paint job, including helping painters and consumers get the best overall paint application experience and long-term performance. A properly formulated primer is integral to improving top-coat adhesion across a variety of substrates, blocking stains and other chemicals from coming through the paint and improving top-coat appearance. Dow has a range of primer solutions that can be used to deliver enhanced performance properties, including:

  • Solutions for universal specialty primer applications
  • Excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates
  • Superior stain and tannin blocking
  • Some light corrosion and rust resistance
  • Mildew, efflorescence and alkali resistance
  • More consistent top coat coverage
  • Minimized cracking, even over dimensionally unstable substrates
  • Can be formulated with or without zinc oxide to deliver additional performance features
  • Low-VOC and APOE-free capabilities

In addition to having solutions that act as excellent primer vehicles, we carry a range of options that serve as binders and additives to formulate for the growing “paint and primer in one” category.
