Cost Control: Dow addresses emerging trends in the pressure sensitive industry
Label stock producers and converters operate in an increasingly competitive market, facing material and processing cost pressure. Dow drives meaningful innovations to help customers solve their toughest labelling challenges like the industry’s demand for ever increasing label dispensing speeds.
Today’s filling machines and labelling units are able to go up to 1,200 bpm. Converters and label dispensers must operate within a broad range of speeds without sacrificing production line efficiency and quality. This trend has implications on the release profile.
In response, Dow develops high performance release coatings solutions to address the growing demand for ever increasing label dispensing speeds.
Dow’s SYL-OFF™ SL 585 Release Coating provides uniform anchorage to challenging super-calendered kraft (SCK)/clay coated papers, as well as traditional substrates, such as glassine and SCK paper. Offering excellent resistance to rub-off, this advanced technology is formulated with platinum for ease of handling. It provides stable release performance in ultra-flat profiles and reduced misting at high line speeds of 800 to 1000 m/min. Ideal for high-speed die-cutting and label dispensing systems, it is an excellent solution for labels targeting personal care product containers, prescription bottles, food packaging, shipping materials and other labeling applications.
SYL-OFF™ SL 181 Solventless Release Coatings features stable, flat release profiles and low platinum levels. It minimizes the potential for web breaks after die cutting and during label dispensing and enables fast line speeds without misting and is an appealing candidate for a variety of applications, including pressure-sensitive laminates, non-stick packaging, technical adhesive tapes, industrial release papers and high-speed die-cutting and label dispensing.
