How can we enjoy the footwear we love while lowering our carbon footprint?
From manufacturers to brands, retailers to shoppers, every one of us can play a part in reducing the impact of climate change. But how can we work together to create footwear that balances environmental responsibility with effective performance?
Demand for sustainability is driving innovation
Growing demand for sustainable products is driving innovation across the footwear industry. But true innovation needs collaboration at every step in the supply chain. So at Dow, we’re taking a new approach to design and manufacturing that will enable all of us to find more sustainable solutions and make better decisions.
Right now, we’re exploring how using bio-based renewable feedstock and the mass balance system can deliver, CO2 reducing solutions which don’t compromise on performance. That means more sustainable products that deliver the same quality, durability, look and feel.
Mass Balance
Mass Balance is a percentage that shows how much our products can be defined as bio-based. We arrive at this figure by measuring the amount of sustainably sourced bio-based feedstock we use across our production. By continuing to add more of these materials into the mix, we’re helping industry rely less on fossil feedstock and shift to a more sustainable future.
Introducing ECOLIBRIUM™
ECOLIBRIUM™ a technology enabling more sustainable polymers for footwear. This approach could also open up possibilities for recyclability of footwear at the end of life avoiding incineration or landfill. We’re proud to partner with Crocs, the first footwear brand to go-to-market with this new technology, while simultaneously exploring its potential with designers, marketers and wearers everywhere.
