Dow Technology Empowers XTEP Softpad to Deliver Exceptionally Comfortable ShoesXiamen, China - May 26, 2016 -
Dow Polyurethanes, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), today announced the launch of a co-branding program with China’s well-known fashion sportswear brand XTEP. The partnership combines Dow VORALAST™ Comfort Science technology and XTEP’s Softpad technology to enable next-generation shoes, bringing more comfortable and lightweight workout and recreational experiences to Chinese consumers. This collaboration is Dow Polyurethanes’ latest effort to bring its science closer to customers to set market trends.
XTEP's latest running and sports shoes, which were rolled out in the first and second quarter of this year, adopt Dow VORALAST™ polyurethane memory foam. They represent the first time Dow Polyurethanes has implemented a co-branding program with an influential Chinese brand. XTEP also plans to apply the VORALAST™ technology to all of its ladies shoes. All VORALAST™-enabled products will display hangtags jointly designed by Dow and XTEP to boost consumer awareness of how Dow material science increases the comfort of the XTEP Softpad. In the future, both parties will work together on a range of new product campaigns.
“Comfortable running shoes allow consumers to enjoy more productive, healthy workouts and recreation. We are very pleased to partner with the stylish sportswear brand XTEP to bring our Comfort Science to consumers in China,” said Glenn Wright, Global Business President, Dow Polyurethanes. “We look to cooperate with more Chinese brands in the future to offer innovative flexible foam solutions that enable rewarding lifestyles and deliver superior comfort in many aspects of society.”
“XTEP is committed to providing consumers with fashionable and vibrant sportswear with the latest cutting-edge technology,” said Shuipo Ding, Founder, Chairman and CEO of the XTEP Group. “XTEP is the world's first and only sports brand to introduce Dow’s VORALAST™ Comfort Science into its shoe products. We have successfully partnered to enhance shoe comfort and we are excited to launch our joint hangtags. Dow technology delivers good quality, durability and comfort, allowing consumers to enjoy an exceptional feeling, while XTEP’s is able to boost its competitiveness among China’s sportswear brands.”
Dow’s VORALAST™ technology features fit, comfort, lightness, durability and fashion, while addressing consumer needs for mid- to high-end shoepads in the sports and casual shoe markets. VORALAST™-based pads closely conform to the shape of the foot and quickly rebound to their original shape. The technology also efficiently and evenly distributes weight over the pad’s entire surface. Dow’s technology reduces shoe pad density and lowers weight by 20% compared to conventional PU/EVA materials. Additionally, compression decreases by 20%, making it more durable.
Dow Polyurethanes has partnered with XTEP since 2014. Dow Polyurethanes was invited to introduce its VORALAST™ technology during an XTEP new product launch event in June 2015, where it garnered positive reviews from XTEP distribution partners across China.
