Dow Wins 2015 Ringier Technology Innovation Award for Solving Electrical Transmission Challenge

Shanghai, China - November 24, 2015 -

China's urbanization and industrialization is driving a rapid increase in demand for power supply and the transmission of energy to densely populate regions within the country. This rising appetite for power consumption has meant that high voltage (HV) underground cables have become a key enabler for reliable power supply.

Within many countries, the HV cable industry is facing many challenges such as deteriorating margins amid fierce competition, a lack of re-investment by national utilities and customers who want the assurance that their power supply can be met speedily and in a reliable manner without sacrificing the quality of cable materials. It is therefore not surprising that these customers want to enhance their business competitiveness and profitability through manufacturing efficiency improvements.

To meet these needs, Dow's Electrical & Telecommunications (E&T) business, with over 25 years of innovation for HV materials, developed ENDURANCE™ HFDC-4201 SC EXP1, a next generation high voltage material possessing extended extrusion capability, reduced degassing time while maintaining reliable electrical performance with added attributes such as:

  • reduced 50% degassing time which leads to improved lead time, better cash flow, optimized inventory management
  • more than 20% longer extrusion resulting in higher throughput, lower conversion cost

This innovation from Dow E&T has made industry experts take note and Dow has been awarded the Ringier Technology Innovation Award for ENDURANCE™ HFDC-4201 SC EXP1 which has won over customers with overall lower manufacturing costs which can help restore profitability to their business.

The Ringier Technology Innovation Award is one of the most influential and prestigious industrial awards in China. Launched in 2006, the Award is organized by Industry Sourcing, a leading B2B industrial information provider that belongs to Ringier Trade Media in China, which is an influential trade media group and is bestowed annually to acknowledge companies who have introduced and developed new innovation that would result in manufacturing production efficiency and make an impact to the plastics industry.

“This recognition is a great accolade and is a strong testimony to Dow's leadership in innovation that not only helps cable makers to meet their business needs for superior performance but also allows utilities to have peace of mind knowing that their power grids are using only the best materials to provide reliable power transmission and supply. Dow E&T materials are a true combination of science and technology to address the challenges that our customers and end-users face”, said Kirk Xu, Marketing Manager in Asia Pacific for Dow E&T.
