“Energy Efficiency Initiatives” in Middle East Generates Industry AttentionDubai, United Arab Emirates - May 08, 2018 -
Dow Construction Chemicals (DCC) was recognized as the Sustainable Construction Company of the Year for embracing sustainability principles and helping its customers achieve their green goals. External thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), cool reflective roof coatings (CRRC), flexible cementitious waterproofing membranes and dry mix mortars technologies were highlighted as innovations that protect the building envelope, enhance building energy efficiency, foster water conservation and drive sustainable construction with durability, quality and efficiency. The award was presented in front of several decision makers – including UAE Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) – along with various construction industry leaders during the Big Project Awards.
On the same night, Dow was awarded Manufacturer of the Year by Middle East Economic Digest recognizing DCC’s innovation commitments and manufacturing footprint. The two awards, along with the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award, presented by Construction Business News for CRRC, marks DCC’s third recognition in the past two months and demonstrates the business has the right solutions for a rapidly growing region.
“All three of these industry awards are a testament to the innovative work DB&C teams are bringing to the marketplace,” said Ralf Brinkmann, Business President, Building & Construction. “Congratulations to the team on outstanding work.”
These awards come on the heels of smart strategy changes forDCC’s key product areas in the Middle East. A strategic initiative, internally referred to as “Energy Efficiency Initiatives,” follows a three-step approach: identify and connect with local building decision makers, demonstrate value through demo case studies and explore regional events for upcoming regulations and market trends. Beginning with specific, localized value propositions, the team positions technologies, mainly cool roof reflective coatings, to speak directly to select decision makers while collaborating with monitoring partners such as SIEMENS and producing case studies with hosts such as Dubai Municipality and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).
In addition to providing customers with high-quality ERC materials, the team strives to promote energy efficiency and become known as the sustainable partner of choice. One creative approach to achieving this goal was organizing an Energy Efficiency and Advanced Local Manufacturing workshop to support the vision of Saudi Arabia for 2030, which included various public and private energy efficiency organizations. Another approach was STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Sustainability Innovation Challenge - a three-day ideation competition gathering more than 160 students from seven universities working on real-life regional challenges. The winning team came up with a proposal to improve energy efficiency by utilizing state-of-the-art technologies from Dow, coupled with relevant incentives and education tools like a digital platform that connects the government, property owners, construction companies and insulation manufacturers to promote insulation of residential homes.
