Caustic Soda is used in a wide range of applications from cleaning reagent to food preparation. During recent years, the requirements of the food industry have increased significantly, causing a crying need for more demanding caustic soda requirement for this market. This is why we developed TRACELIGHT™ 50% Caustic Soda, which is suitable for use as a food processing aid.
Dow’s TRACELIGHT™ 50% Caustic Soda is the first High Purity Caustic Soda produced according to the ISO 22000 certification, in an ISO 22000 certified European manufacturing facility1. TRACELIGHT™ 50% Caustic Soda is manufactured following strictly the ISO 22000 international standards of the Food Safety Management System, from membrane technology production all the way to loading. The product provides unmatched quality assurance through traceability and efficient risk management. Dow’s production facility complies with the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements under the food Hygiene Regulation (EC) 852/2004
Advantages and authorization as food processing aid and cleaning agent for food packaging materials
TRACELIGHT™ Caustic Soda is authorized as a food processing aid2 under the French Decret 2011-5093. TRACELIGHT™ 50% Caustic Soda not only fulfills the purity and quality criteria set by the European Union on the use of caustic soda in the food industry4 but is manufactured in an ISO 22000 certified plant. The production of TRACELIGHT™ 50% Caustic Soda offers consistent high purity and traceability for each delivery.

1ISO 22000 is a standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization dealing with food safety. It is a Food Safety Management System that can be applied to any organization in the food chain, farm to fork. Becoming ISO 22000 certified allows a company to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards.
2Definition Food processing aid (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008): any substance which is not consumed as a food by itself; is intentionally used in the processing of raw materials, foods or their ingredients, to fulfil a certain technological purpose during treatment or processing and may result in the unintentional but technically unavoidable presence in the final product of residues of the substance or its derivatives provided they do not present any health risk and do not have any technological effect on the final product.
