Sustaining momentum for greener living | Dow Building & Construction
A high level thought leadership seminar hosted by Dow Building Solutions (DBS) in conjunction with the journal of the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects was held at the Building Centre in central London – a centre showcasing for innovation in building design. “Sustainability, where are we now?” conference brought together a panel of experts including representative from Dow Building Solutions, Joan Ferrer, to discuss what sustainability means for tomorrow’s buildings, and what role the construction industry’s value chain has to play.
“We operate at the intersection of shifting political agendas, continuous innovation in materials science and tough economic demands, and the sustainability agenda weaves between all of these,” said Chris Gimson, Commercial Director for Dow Building Solutions in the UK and Ireland. “We were interested to hear perspectives from those operating at the cutting edge of building design as to what is really driving the sustainability agenda today – particularly in an environment where government policy changes such as axing the Code for Sustainable Homes may start to change future aspirations of developers and designers.”
Alongside DBS Technical Sales Manager Joan Ferrer, an expert panel chaired by Rab Bennetts, founding director of architect Bennetts Associates, answered a series of questions from the floor. Fellow members included Dr Owen Abbe, Associate Director of Sustainable Products at building science centre BRE, Dr Judit Kimpian, Chair of the Architects’ Council of Europe sustainability group and Mark Harris, Head of Technical services and Operations at roofing specialist Radmat, a major Dow customer.
