Colleen Kay is the corporate auditor for The Dow Chemical Company, based in Midland, Michigan, at the company’s global headquarters.
With oversight for Dow’s Corporate Audit department, she is responsible for ensuring the adequacy and accuracy of all accounting, financial and operating controls of Dow’s global operations. As a corporate officer of the company, Kay facilitates a strong connection between Dow and its Board of Directors, enabling the highest standards for governance.
Kay joined Dow in 1990 and held various roles in the U.S. area Treasury and Customer Financial Services group before joining the Portfolio Investments team in 1994 as a fixed income portfolio manager. In 1999, she moved to Treasury as an interest rate risk manager; in 2001, she was appointed to lead the commodity risk management group; and in 2007, she was named financial planning process leader where she was responsible for leading the Treasury global process for financial planning including capital structure, cash flow and exposure forecasting. In this role, Kay had reporting responsibility to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. Kay held this role during the financial crisis, and successfully directed Treasury actions that were key to the acquisition of Rohm and Haas. Kay was also a member of the K-Dow Arbitration team assisting in the development of damage claims resulting in a $2.2 billion arbitration award.
In 2012, Kay was named global director of Customer Financial Services (CFS), where she was responsible for the Company’s trade credit and financial counterparty risk, managing a global accounts receivable portfolio of more than $8 billion. During her tenure, the CFS team delivered strong results through a volatile economic and business environment, supporting the Company’s strategic and financial objectives.
Kay is a member of the Finance Leadership Team, where she contributes to the strategic direction of the function, chairs the Finance Forward Streamline for Efficiency team and is an active member of the Develop Talent team, which drives the people strategy for Finance.
Kay earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Western Michigan University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance) from Indiana University. She provides community leadership as a member of the Mid-Michigan Health Investment Committee and the Greater Midland Community Center Finance Committee. She is also a past board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region and past Treasurer for the Dow Foundation.
