Inaugural LPGA Event, Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, to Offer Opportunities for Retirees and Employees

In May, Jim Fitterling, Dow™ CEO, and Karen S. Carter, Dow chief inclusion officer, were joined by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), numerous community members and LPGA players to unveil an exciting event coming to Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region. Next summer, the world’s best female golfers will play at Midland Country Club for the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational July 17-20, 2019. The tournament will be the first team event in LPGA history, featuring 72 two-person teams playing for official money, official points and a $2 million purse.

“We couldn’t be more excited to create a weeklong celebration for our incredible Dow family and the Great Lakes Bay community,” said Chris Chandler, Dow’s tournament director for the invitational. “Our mission with the tournament is to accelerate the efforts of the Great Lakes Bay Region by creating a world-class and unique LPGA Tour event that positively impacts people’s lives.”

As title sponsor of the inaugural tournament, Dow will offer exclusive opportunities for its employees and retirees. Some of those benefits include hosting a player at their home during event week and volunteering. Starting in September of 2018, Dow employees and retirees will be invited to register for these opportunities before the general public. Volunteers will be able to choose from more than 20 committees such as marshals, standard bearers and caddie tent greeters.

“We hope that employees and retirees will take advantage of the opportunities to work alongside their Dow family and other community members of the Great Lakes Bay Region,” said Chandler. “Our goal is to recruit over 800 volunteers for the tournament.”

The Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational will bring in spectators from around the world and be broadcast on the Golf Channel to more than 150 countries. Local businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their work through sponsorship opportunities ranging from entertaining clients in hospitality suites to taking part in the tournament’s Pro-Am.

Planning is currently underway for other exciting events for the 2019 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. To stay up-to-date on the latest news, events, volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, please visit and follow the tournament @DowGLBI on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
