Great Lakes Bay Region Retirees: Volunteer Opportunities at Legacy Center for Community Success
Midland, MI - February 05, 2014
Literacy Services at the Legacy Center for Community Success (formerly Literacy Council of Midland County) is looking for volunteer reading tutors who can commit to working with one student, two hours a week, for a year.
Literacy Services provides 10-12 hours of training and all tutoring materials at no cost to the tutor. Each tutor uses the Barton Reading & Spelling System. All lessons are fully scripted and follow a set, skill-building sequence. With a little training and a few hours a week, you can help someone improve their reading level by three or four school grades!
Students range in age from eight years old to adult. They are all at least one year behind in reading at grade level. Many of them have dyslexia, a neurological condition, which is the most common cause of reading failure. Using our tutoring curriculum, you can help someone learn to overcome this condition and be a reader for life!
Literacy Services always has over ten school-age students waiting for a tutor. If you are interested in the opportunity, please call Kristi Kline at the Legacy Center, (989) 496-1425 x1005, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
