The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee set an ambitious goal – to deliver Games with a minimal impact on climate. As the Official Carbon Partner of Sochi 2014, Dow launched the Sustainable Future program – a groundbreaking initiative aimed at balancing the Organizing Committee’s carbon footprint by implementing low-carbon and energy-efficient technologies across Russia.

Mitigation projects enabled by Dow’s low-carbon solutions were designed to upgrade business-as-usual practices in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture and industry, generating greenhouse gas emission reductions and long-lasting benefits to the country’s economy. This collaboration made the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games the first Games in history to mitigate the entire direct carbon footprint of its Organizing Committee prior to the opening ceremony.

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) was selected to provide third-party validation of the Project Plans against the Dow Climate Solutions Framework and to verify GHG emission reductions.
