Sustainability in Sports

As the Official Chemistry Company of the Olympic Games we create strategic partnerships that advance best in class technologies and deliver tangible sustainability gains to society.

Leaving a Lasting Legacy in Host Geographies

We are combining the power of sports and science with the power of collaboration to catalyze action on climate change and help build a sustainable future. Through a program developed and implemented by Dow, the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games were the first Games where the direct carbon footprint of the Organizing Committee was mitigated before the opening ceremony.

As the Official Carbon Partner of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, Dow developed the most comprehensive carbon mitigation program in the history of the Games to deliver climate benefits through low-carbon solutions and expertise.

Dow has developed the Climate Solutions Framework with the hopes of encouraging voluntary mitigation programs across the world. The Framework allows event owners, in collaboration with event partners, to implement a structured yet flexible approach to quantify and mitigate the impacts of events while also leaving a positive legacy through the adoption of innovative low-carbon technologies. The Framework incorporates existing best practices in GHG measurement and reporting with a rigorous approach to the development of a portfolio of GHG mitigation projects.
