DFDA-1675 NT Welcomed by China Data Communication Cable Manufacturers

A new low smoke zero-halogen compound, DFDA-1675 NT, designed to be used as the cross web separator for Category 6 communication cables in plenum spaces is earning high interest in China. Initial sampling and commercialization efforts are gaining awareness and positive response as the number of orders for this new communications product continues to grow.

The use of the cross web compound for communication cables installed in plenum spaces of buildings, between the structural ceiling and the suspended ceiling, or under a raised floor, satisfies the requirements for increased flame retardant (FR) capabilities. Additionally, the cross web allows enough separation between the copper wires in a cable to reduce signal interference and improve performance. The massive infrastructure upgrading and building construction in China gives rise to the large demand of Category 6 communication cables, which require high FR performance.

Based on polyolefin thermoplastic resin, DFDA-1675 NT was validated by U.S. Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) in December 2004 and passed the stringent UL NFPA 262 flame test.

Global cable manufacturers will find that DFDA-1675 NT can be extruded at higher rates, enabling faster and more efficient processing. DFDA-1675 NT also provides high quality, flexibility and reliability at lower cost. Because DFDA-1675 NT has lower specific gravity than fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) materials, it allows manufacturers the potential to reduce the weight per unit cable length. DFDA-1675 NT is designed to replace FEP cross web separators and provides additional features including:

  • Highly flame retardant and non-halogen
  • Compliant with Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (ROHS)
  • Low smoke, low corrosiveness and low toxicity
  • Good electrical properties
  • Good moisture resistance
  • Good balance of toughness and flexibility
  • Ease of extrusion with no special screw requirements
