Meeting the New CENELEC StandardsThe German requirements of the harmonized standard CENELEC HD605 S1, named DIN VDE0276-620/A3 are now in place. The requirements are the toughest of the different European requirements for two-year aging in water. Dow recently completed a series of two-year tests with the three different types of insulation materials sold. The best performance was achieved by water tree resistant products such as HFDB/K-4202 EC. CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, is a non-profit technical organization set up under Belgian law and composed of the national electrotechnical committees of 28 European countries. In addition, eight national committees from Eastern Europe and the Balkans are participating in CENELEC as affiliates. Created in 1973, CENELEC is a result of the merger of two European organizations: CENELCOM and CENEL. CENELEC members have been working together in the interests of European harmonization since the 1950s, creating standards requested by the market and harmonizing standards in support of European legislation, which have helped to shape the European Internal Market. CENELEC works with 15,000 technical experts from 28 European countries focusing directly on increasing market potential and encouraging technological development and the safety and health of consumers and workers.
